First Responders (Police, Firefighters, EMTs and Paramedics) put their lives on the line every day for people they don’t even know. They are more than good neighbors – they are our brothers, sisters, husbands, wives and friends. While everyone else is running away, they’re running towards the danger. Every year at this time the Franklin Center of Beaver County takes a moment out to honor them with a special day at the same time as we pay homage to the 911 tragedy. This year, however we will take action. Hurricane Harvey has devastated Texas after making landfall leaving behind flattened communities and historic flooding in many parts of Texas.
If you would like to help those affected by the storm and make a difference in your own community, join Harvey’s Heroes of Beaver County. This is a group of volunteers from the Franklin Center of Beaver County, the Center at the Mall, and SJO Ministries. Bring your cash donations or actual emergency supplies to the Senior Center at the Mall located next to Career Link at the Beaver Valley Mall on Friday, September 8th between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Here’s the immediate needs and what you should keep in mind when bringing your donations. Everything must be new, unopened and nonperishable. These are examples but not limited to:
- Baby food , diapers, wipes, formula
- Medical supplies & toiletries
- Zip lock bags
- Snack food & bottled water
- Hygiene & feminine products
- Pet Food
Light refreshments for volunteers who stay can help put the survival kits together, count products for shipping, inventory donations, take names and addresses to send thank you notes. While at the Center at the Mall we will have live footage of rescues taking place in the flooded areas. Any questions please call Shon Owens at the Franklin Center at (724) 378-2882 or Valerie McElvy at (724) 601-1856 for more information.
